EPDM Hose Types

EPDM Rubber Hose v.s. Silicone Hose
EPDM Rubber Hose: The working temperature of EPDM rubber hoses ranges from -40°C to 150°C, though they are less stable than silicone hoses at extreme temperatures. Known as “crack-resistant rubber,” EPDM hoses offer good resistance to polar chemicals and water but are not resistant to oils. Compared to silicone hoses, EPDM hoses exhibit superior abrasion, tear, and tensile resistance, suitable for various outdoor and industrial environments.
Silicone Hose: Silicone hoses perform well in temperatures ranging from -60°C to 230°C and offer good resistance to water, ozone, and UV radiation (not resistant to petroleum or fuel). EPDM Hose v.s. NBR Hose
EPDM Hose: Compared to NBR hose, EPDM hose offers superior resistance to water, steam, and polar chemicals, while it rapidly swells or softens upon contact with petroleum products. With an operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C and excellent weather and UV resistance, it is highly suitable for harsh outdoor environments and is commonly used for automotive cooling lines, garden hoses, and steam hoses.
NBR Hose: NBR hoses operate within a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C and exhibit excellent resistance to mineral oil, gasoline, and diesel. Compared to EPDM hoses, NBR hoses offer superior abrasion and tear resistance. With poor ozone and weather resistance, they are not suitable for long-term outdoor use. They are commonly used for fuel and lubrication lines in automotive or hydraulic systems.

Customer sent us an original EPDM radiator hose sample. RONTEIX engineers verified specifications such as dimensions, wall thickness, and bend radius, or performed a 3D scan of the sample.
RONTEIX converts samples into production-ready 3D CAD models, typically in STEP, STP, IGES, or SolidWorks formats. Factors such as hose bend angles, end configurations, and structural details are taken into account.
According to OEM part numbers, 3D drawings, or samples, we use CNC milling to machine steel or carbon steel into the desired shapes and perform surface treatment on the mandrels.
According to the formulation, EPDM polymer and additives are charged into an internal mixer to produce an EPDM rubber compound with specific properties.
Compounded EPDM rubber is fed into a rubber extruder to form an uncured EPDM tube. This extrusion process ensures uniform wall thickness and diameter.
Green hose is fitted onto a specially shaped mandrel and heated in a vulcanization oven, imparting elasticity, tensile strength, aging resistance, and coolant resistance to the EPDM radiator hose.
