Nitrile Hose Chemical Resistance
RONTEIX nitrile hoses offer excellent resistance to petroleum-based products, alkane solvents, and weakly polar substances.
Factors Affecting Key Variables
- ACN Content: The higher the ACN content, the greater the material’s polarity, and the better its resistance to corrosion caused by oils and hydrocarbons.
- Temperature: The chemical resistance of our NBR hoses decreases as temperature rises, accelerating material aging.
Our NBR hoses have poor resistance to strongly polar solvents, strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; contact with these substances will damage their molecular structure.

NBR Hose Meaning
The full name of NBR hoses is nitrile butadiene rubber hoses. Our NBR hoses consist of an inner rubber layer, a reinforcement layer, and an outer rubber layer. The higher the nitrile content, the better the rubber’s oil resistance. However, flexibility decreases in low-temperature operating environments.
The higher the acrylonitrile content in the polymer, the better its oil resistance.
RONTEIX offers cost-effective, customizable NBR hoses for transporting fuel, compressed air, hydraulic fluids, and food and grease. Please contact us immediately for a price quote.

NBR Hose v.s. Silicone Hose

RONTEIX NBR hoses are made from a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile and offer excellent oil resistance.
RONTEIX silicone hoses, thanks to their exceptional thermal stability and physiological inertness, remain flexible and elastic even at high temperatures. They are resistant to ozone and UV radiation.
Our silicone hoses are far superior to NBR hoses in terms of weather resistance and safety, making them suitable for use in the food and medical fields and for long-term outdoor use.
Our NBR hoses are suitable for dynamic friction conditions, have strong oil resistance, and will not swell or degrade.
If you would like to select more hoses made of different materials to suit your needs, please contact us.
NBR Hose v.s. EPDM Hose

RONTEIX NBR hoses and EPDM hoses are both rubber hoses, but they differ fundamentally in their resistance to oil, weather, and chemicals, as well as their electrical insulation.
- Flexibility: EPDM hoses are more flexible than NBR hoses and retain their elasticity in low-temperature environments involving frequent bending.
- Oil Resistance: Nitrile rubber hoses are ideal for workplaces in contact with animal, vegetable, or mineral oils. EPDM hoses swell rapidly, soften, and may even degrade when exposed to oils.
- Weather Resistance: NBR hoses are prone to aging and cracking when exposed to UV rays and ozone, and are not suitable for outdoor use. In contrast, EPDM hoses can last for more than 20 years outdoors.
- Temperature Adaptability: EPDM hoses have a wider operating temperature range, from -55°C to 135°C. In contrast, NBR hoses have an operating temperature range of only -40°C to 100°C.
- Chemical Resistance: Nitrile rubber hoses have poor resistance to weak acids and weak alkalis. EPDM hoses are resistant to acids, alkalis, alcohols, and deionized water.

PTFE v.s. Nitrile Hose

Both RONTEIX nitrile rubber braided hoses and PTFE hoses are suitable for fuel systems and can be used to manufacture high-pressure hoses for hydraulic systems.
- In terms of chemical resistance, PTFE hoses are resistant to acids, alkalis, solvents, chemicals, and corrosive fluids.
- In terms of heat resistance, PTFE hoses can withstand higher temperatures than NBR hoses.
- In terms of flexibility, our nitrile hoses are inherently flexible, whereas PTFE hoses require braided reinforcements to improve their flexibility.
Manufacturing Process
RONTEIX factory operates a complete production line for NBR hoses, including raw material polymerization, compounding, molding, and vulcanization. Please see below for the specific steps:
We use a low-temperature emulsion polymerization process to ensure a more uniform distribution of acrylonitrile and enhance tensile strength. After degassing, dehydration, coagulation, repeated washing, and finally drying, we obtain NBR crude rubber.
We mix raw rubber with vulcanizing agents, accelerators, reinforcing agents, and plasticizers in a Banbury mixer and an open mill. After allowing the mixture to stand for 2–8 hours, we proceed to the next step of molding.
We use an extrusion process, combined with winding or braiding of reinforcing layers and an outer rubber lamination process, to form the compound into a tubular shape.
Inside the vulcanization chamber, our hoses ensure consistent performance under high-temperature, high-pressure, and saturated steam conditions, while minimizing compression set.

Testimonials
RONTEIX standard nitrile fuel hoses have poor resistance to UV radiation and ozone.
Prolonged exposure to outdoor UV radiation can cause surface cracking, hardening, embrittlement, discoloration, and a loss of mechanical strength.
If you want to maintain the performance of nitrile fuel hoses while also enhancing their UV resistance, you can use a specialized outer layer reinforced with neoprene or other weather-resistant synthetic rubber.
During the compounding process, we can add UV absorbers, ozone stabilizers, and antioxidants to the raw materials to improve their weather resistance.
The resistance of RONTEIX nitrile hoses to ethanol depends on the ethanol concentration, temperature, and duration of contact.
When the temperature rises by 20°C, the diffusion rate of the solvent increases 3 to 4 times, causing the nitrile hoses to expand in volume.
Standard NBR hoses exhibit moderate resistance to high-concentration ethanol or pure ethanol. High-acrylonitrile NBR hoses can handle low-concentration ethanol mixtures. XNBR hoses are suitable for transporting medical or chemical alcohols.
When in contact with diesel fuel, RONTEIX nitrile hoses maintain a volumetric expansion rate of less than 15%—far outperforming natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber.
To produce straight NBR hoses, we use extrusion and vulcanization processes.
You can also use the mandrel forming process to create 45°, 90°, 135°, 180°, U-shaped, S-shaped, and custom-shaped bends.
RONTEIX nitrile hoses offer excellent resistance to gas permeation, preventing nitrogen molecules from penetrating the hoses’ walls or seals.
RONTEIX NBR hoses are primarily designed for transporting oils and fuels; they are not compatible with mixtures of distilled water and ethylene glycol or propylene glycol in water-cooling systems.
Our EPDM hoses and silicone hoses are suitable for water-cooling systems in engines used in the automotive, industrial, and engineering sectors.
Step 1: Release fuel pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse or using the fuel pressure relief valve to shut off the engine. Ensure the engine and exhaust components have cooled completely.
Step 2: Use pliers or a wrench to disconnect the clamps or threaded fittings.
Step 3: Break the seal at the hose connection; apply lubricant to reduce friction or use a heat gun to warm the hose ends.
Step 4: Remove the old NBR hoses and inspect them for signs of aging or cracking.
First, you must adhere to the minimum bending radius specified for RONTEIX NBR fuel hoses. Avoid excessive stretching on the outside, which can cause compression wrinkles on the inside and lead to oil leakage.
You can use pipe bending guides or fittings instead of forcibly bending the pipe by hand.
Our nitrile hoses have poor resistance to ozone and ultraviolet light, poor resistance to polar solvents and chemicals, and a narrow operating temperature range.
NBR hoses have a continuous operating temperature range of approximately -40°C to 120°C and are unsuitable for use in steam systems.
NBR material has low volume resistivity and is a semi-conductive material, so it cannot be used as an electrical insulating material in high-voltage applications.
RONTEIX nitrile rubber hoses fully comply with safety and quality regulations; they are non-toxic and pose no harm to the human body during use.
Nitrile material is mainly used in automobiles, aerospace, oil and gas, industrial seals, mechanical parts, protective gloves, and medical supplies.
